A 53-year-old Akron man died Monday morning after crashing his motorcycle in Kenmore, according to Akron police.

Officers were notified by Barberton police at around 8:15 a.m. of a motorcycle chase that entered Akron and resulted in a crash in the 1400 block of Kenmore Boulevard. The 53-year-old victim, identified as Gregory Stevens, was fleeing Barberton police at a high speed when he struck a van. Stevens was ejected during the crash and both he and his motorcycle hit a parked tractor trailer.

The impact of the motorcycle hitting the trailer caused the tractor's gas tank to explode, police said. Stevens was later transported to Akron General Hospital where he died from blunt force trauma to the head and torso at about 8:46 a.m., Gary Guenther of the Summit County Medical Examiner's Office said.
