The Akron Police Department is investigating two shootings that took place this weekend.
According to police, detectives are in the early stages of investigating the shooting death of a 24-year-old woman that occurred early Sunday morning.
At approximately 12:26 a.m., officers responded to a shooting at 14 Socrates Place. Upon arrival, they found the woman with an apparent gunshot wound to the torso.
She was transported to a local hospital by EMS and pronounced dead shortly after.
"Based on the preliminary information developed, the victim was shot by an unknown suspect, who fled the scene on foot after the altercation," the release said.
The woman's name is being withheld pending notifications and further investigation.
Felonious assault leaves man in hospital
At around 11 a.m. Saturday, a 31-year-old male arrived at the Cleveland Clinic Akron General Hospital with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the back. According to police, he transported himself to the hospital.
Officers determined that the shooting occurred moments earlier in or near the 300 block of West Crosier Avenue.
Detectives are working to identify a suspect involved in this incident. The investigation is ongoing, and updates will be provided as soon as practicable.
