A 51-year-old man who pleaded guilty to crashing a motorcycle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, killing his passenger was sentenced to three days in Summit County Jail.
Vernon Bowser, who had no previous criminal record in Summit County, pleaded guilty in early July to aggravated vehicular homicide, a third-degree felony, and operating a vehicle while under the influence of drugs or alcohol, a first-degree misdemeanor, according to court documents.
Prosecutors dismissed two additional counts of operating a vehicle while under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

In addition to jail time, Summit County Common Pleas Judge Kelly McLaughlin also sentenced him to three days in the Driver's Intervention Program, suspended his driver's license for three years and fined him $375.
At 3:15 a.m. on Aug. 5, 2023, Bowser was driving south on The Brooklands Avenue in East Akron when he failed to negotiate a left turn onto Adelaide Boulevard, Akron police told the Akron Beacon Journal last year.
When the motorcycle crashed, Bowser and his 44-year-old passenger were ejected from the vehicle. Both occupants were not wearing helmets.
Bowser was hospitalized and later released. The passenger, Christina Bowser, was pronounced dead four days after the crash.
