An Alabama man was killed early Tuesday when his car struck a road sign then overturned, ejecting him from the vehicle, state troopers said.

The single-vehicle crash occurred at approximately 3:04 a.m. Tuesday, and claimed life of a Decatur, Alabama, man.

Curtis L. Pickett, 37, was fatally injured when the 2005 Volkswagen Jetta he was driving left the roadway, struck a road sign, a ditch and then overturned.

Pickett was not using a seat belt at the time of crash, was ejected and pronounced deceased at the scene.

The crash occurred on U.S. 31 near Garrett Road, approximately five miles north of Decatur, in Limestone County.
