A shooting in a small, Alabama town has left a teenager brain-dead, police said.

Local media quoting Selma Police Chief Kenta Fulford reported that the shooting occurred at approximately 9:40 p.m. on Wednesday off Citizens Parkway.

Responding officers found the victim, described only as a 16-year-old boy with a gunshot wound to the head.

The victim was taken to the local hospital in Selma and eventually taken by helicopter to UAB Hospital.

Fulford said later it was his understanding the victim was brain-dead.

Investigators are working the case. Fulford asked anyone with information about the shooting to call investigators at 334-876-1259.
