Fatal fire victim identified as investigation continues, Alabama officials say

Authorities identified Friday the Alabama man who was found dead inside a burning apartment last week.

Jefferson County Chief Deputy Coroner Bill Yates said the victim was identified as Ta’Ciaven Malique Craig, 21, of Birmingham.

Craig’s body was found at approximately 1:33 a.m. on August 16 inside an apparently on East Ben Circle in Center Point.

His body was found after Center Point Fire and Rescue along with Trussville Fire and Rescue were called to an apartment fire with a report of a person trapped inside.

After the fire was extinguished firefighters found the body later identified as Craig inside.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office and the Alabama State Fire Marshal’s Office are investigating.
