Press release from Florida Department of Transportation

ALACHUA COUNTY, Fla. – FDOT will begin a bridge maintenance project on the State Road 26 Bridge over Hatchet Creek on Monday, Aug. 26. As part of the project, FDOT will be placing riprap around the bridge foundations to prevent erosion and scour. Riprap consists of large rock boulders, which prevent soil and earth erosion from occurring during periods of fast-moving, high-water flows. Using riprap to protect bridge foundations is a proven, widely-used method for bridge maintenance operations.

Motorists traveling on State Road 26 over Hatchet Creek may experience intermittent daytime and nighttime lane closures while crews perform the work. Crews will use flaggers and safety devices to direct motorists safely through the lane closure. Motorists are encouraged to use caution and expect delays.

Leware Construction Company of Florida, Inc. was selected to complete this $740,000 project by October 2024, weather and unforeseen circumstances permitting.
