Press release from Florida Department of Transportation

WALDO, Fla. – Construction is expected to begin next week on the Florida Department of Transportation’s State Road 24 resurfacing project in Alachua County from State Road 222 in northeast Gainesville to U.S. 301 (State Road 200) in Waldo. Improvements under this contract consist of milling and resurfacing of almost 9 miles of State Road 24, shoulder treatment, curb and gutters, drainage improvements, highway signing, guardrail construction, traffic signals, and other incidental construction.

Traffic will be maintained in accordance with FDOT design standards throughout the project. During resurfacing operations, drivers can expect daytime lane closures from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. Please note the speed limit on State Road 24 will be reduced to 55 mph during work zone activity.

V.E. Whitehurst & Sons was selected to complete this resurfacing project at a cost of $21.5 million by summer 2025, weather and unforeseen circumstances permitting.
