Homes along Highway 70 in the Salt Fire burn scar are being evacuated because of heavy flooding in the area, a Mescalero Apache Fire Rescue social media posting said. Village of Ruidoso spokesperson Kerry Gladden said that evacuees are welcome at the Red Cross Shelter at at White Mountain Relief Center at 687 Hull Rd. in Ruidoso.

The Alamogordo City Commission and the new City Manager Rick Holden and his assistant City Manager Stephanie Hernandez have a difficult job before them. Since Mr. Holden has come into office he has been tasked with taking inventory of the city infrastructure, policies and procedures and evaluate neglect and to bring the city forward. Senator Lujan Visits Rural Communities and Reviews Investment

June is Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) Awareness Month, which aims to increase awareness and spread the word that effective treatments are available. PTSD is an anxiety disorder that can develop in people after they experience or witness a life-threatening event, such as combat, natural disasters, car accidents, or sexual assault. Symptoms can include nightmares, uncontrollable thoughts about the event, sleep problems, irritability, anger, intense reactions to reminders of the trauma, disturbances in relationships, and isolation. Symptoms can start soon after the traumatic event, but may not appear until months or years later, and they can come and go over many years. Some people may recover a few months after the event, but for others it may take years. Treatments for PTSD include trauma-focused psychotherapy and medications to manage symptoms.
Ruidoso Fire Roundup: Containment 64% and 55%, FEMA Warns Beware of Scammers as New Center Opens
Per a release from the village of Ruidoso, the Ruidoso fires continue in the battle for containment. The re-entry map has been updated. Green areas are now open to residents. Red areas remain EXCLUSION ZONES and are off-limits. Blue areas are NO ENTRY ZONES with multiple access points to the Exclusion Zones and are also off-limits to residents.

Ruidoso Fire Update 6-26-24 Eight or Fewer Missing, Infrastructure Assessments Continue
Ruidoso authorities still taking inventory of infrastructure to determine extent of damages and it will take some time says officials. Fire officers continue the investigation and assessments of damages to include gas and water lines, electricity, internet, switch boxes, homes and building damages, street repairs and impact by flooding to bridges and other infrastructure.
