The warrant stemmed from charges in June of 2024 where Trujillo was charged in the death of Russell Wilson by the Taos County Sheriff’s Office. Please reach out to their agency for details in this case.

Additionally, on August 7, 2024, New Mexico State Police along with the Picuris Tribal Police Department, also arrested Byron Sanchez, a wanted fugitive who had a Federal Warrant for Homicide. Both Trujillo and Sanchez were booked into the Taos County Adult Detention Center.

A Chaparral man was charged by criminal complaint for illegally stockpiling firearms and explosives in Las Cruces, New Mexico.

Frederick Urban, 76, appeared before a federal judge on August 12, 2024, and will remain in custody pending a detention hearing, which has not been scheduled.

According to the criminal complaint, on August 8, 2024, the ATF received a tip from a concerned citizen who provided evidence indicating that Urban, a previously convicted felon, was in possession of firearms. Following an investigation, which included reviewing photographs and videos provided by the concerned citizen, ATF agents confirmed the presence of numerous firearms at Urban's residence.

On August 10, 2024, ATF agents, supported by the New Mexico State Police and El Paso Police Department, executed a federal search warrant at Urban's residence. The search resulted in the recovery of numerous firearms, approximately 100,000 rounds of ammunition, large capacity magazines, and gunpowder. Additionally, triacetone triperoxide, an extremely volatile explosive, homemade detonators, blasting caps and gun powder, and other components of homemade bombs were found.

If convicted of the current charges, Urban faces 15 years in prison.

On August 12, 2024, an NMSP Officer responded to multiple 911 calls about a silver Nissan swerving dangerously on I-10. After pulling the vehicle over near milepost 91, the driver, Daniel Baez, 58, showed signs of impairment and was arrested for Aggravated DWI. Mr. Baez was booked into the Luna County Detention Center.

On August 15th, 2024, at approximately 1:15 p.m., New Mexico State Police arrested a woman for DWI that had been involved in a rollover crash with a child in the vehicle.

New Mexico State Police officers were dispatched to Interstate 40 westbound near mile marker 271 in reference to a single vehicle rollover crash involving an 8-year-old child. Upon arrival, officers observed a white Toyota passenger vehicle with heavy damage on the shoulder of the roadway.

The driver of the Toyota was identified as Margarita Bautista (48) from Texas. She had an 8-year female in the car with her. Multiple witnesses observed the Toyota driving recklessly prior to the crash. Bautista refused medical treatment at the scene and agreed to Standard Field Sobriety Tests (SFST’s) after officers smelled an odor of alcohol emitting from Bautista. Upon completion of SFST’s, she was arrested and booked into the De Baca County Detention Center on the following charges:

    • DWI

    • DWI with a minor in the vehicle

    • Abuse of a child resulting in great bodily harm

The child was transported to an area hospital where her injuries are unknown. Ms. Bautista’s breath test results came back as a .16 and .18. This crash remains under investigation by the New Mexico State Police.
