City urges caution after heavy rains

    By Staff Reports,

The city of Albert Lea is urging residents to use caution after the Albert Lea area received reports 1 to almost 3 inches of rain overnight Monday.

South Shore Drive is closed between Rooster Hill Road and County Road 81 until further notice. The city advised residents to be on the lookout for other street closings.

People should avoid swimming in local lakes and stay out of barricaded areas to stay safe.

They should also be sure sump pumps discharge to the street or stormwater system.

City residents and businesses may continue to discharge wastewater from sinks, toilets and other services; however, people could consider reducing water use to help reduce flows to the wastewater treatment plant.

Heavy flows can disrupt the treatment system.

There is no impact to the drinking water system.
