An Albertville man is in the Etowah County Detention Center on a murder charge in connection with a fatal shooting Thursday, according to the Etowah County Sheriff's Office.

Jason Paul Souza, 38, of Albertville, is being held without bond pending an Aniah's Law hearing.

That law lists the charges that bail can be denied for in Alabama.

Souza is charged in the death of Tyler Golden, 35, of Altoona.

Deputies responded about 1 a.m. Thursday to a report of someone shot at a residence in 2000 block of Self Street in Altoona, according to the sheriff's office, and found Golden dead at the scene.

Souza and a woman were detained and taken to the investigation division of the sheriff's office for questioning.

Sheriff Jonathon Horton called the shooting “a senseless act” and “an act of aggression that was unnecessary” and has “left permanent consequences.”

The Attalla Police Department, the Altoona Fire Department, A-Med Ambulance Service and Jacksonville State University's Center for Applied Forensics assisted in the case.
