ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – An Albuquerque man will spend just shy of a year behind bars after he stole someone’s car with kids inside. Police said back in March, Ruben Maestas stole a vehicle near Yale and Katherine when the owner left the car running with his son and son’s friend in the backseat.

Maestas’ kidnapping and child abuse charges were dropped as part of a plea deal where he pled guilty to robbery and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. He was sentenced to 364 days in the Metropolitan Detention Center.
