ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – A teen who admitted to opening fire on a family’s vehicle and killing the mother of a little girl right in front of her will spend a decade behind bars. Ty Gallegos pled guilty to first-degree murder in May.

Court records said back in March 2022, two teenage girls told Gallegos, Estevan Lucero, and Adam Sedillo that someone inside an SUV at the Maverick Gas Station on I-25 and Comanche robbed them. The trio opened fire killing Kayla Montano, injuring her fiancee, and traumatizing everyone inside the vehicle including her seven-year-old daughter.

Judge Courtney Weaks sentenced Gallegos to ten years behind bars as laid out in the plea agreement.
