ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – A promising new development on Albuquerque’s west side aims to help homeless families transition off the streets. The ADC Family Campus, an initiative by the nonprofit organization Saranam, is designed to provide transitional housing coupled with educational and vocational training to support these families. However, supply chain issues have delayed the move-in dates for the organization to welcome families.

The campus, located near Montaño and Taylor Ranch Road, has been in the works for some time. It currently has ten completed apartments with an additional 13 units under construction. Once finished, it will accommodate 23 families. The demand for such housing is high, evidenced by the 120 applications received for ten available units at their east side location.

Tracy Weaver, Executive Director at Saranam, expressed the organization’s mission and success. “We have served 172 families and have a near 80% exit success rate,” Weaver said.

The campus is not just about providing a roof over people’s heads; it aims to create a sense of community and stability. Families will benefit from amenities such as a park and a community center, fostering an environment where they can thrive. “We believe that families are really motivated to change because they want something better for their children. And so that’s built in and just part of us building our community,” Weaver added.

However, the project has hit a significant snag. A crucial emergency electrical shut-off component has been delayed due to supply chain issues, pushing back the move-in dates for families since April. “We ordered that part in April of 2023 and it’s just not available. Any electrical distributors don’t have access to updating that one specific part,” Weaver explained.

Despite this setback, Saranam remains optimistic. The organization is pushing to have construction completed by the end of this year or early next. Weaver emphasized the long-term impact of the ADC Family Campus, stating, “Because we know that if we serve our family today, that generations to come, they won’t need the extra support. We make permanent changes to income levels and poverty.”
