South Valley horse rescue ranch publishes book looking to inspire youth

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – It’s a first for a South Valley horse farm. They are used to giving riding lessons and therapeutic rides but now they are delving into a new adventure, publishing.

The inspiration behind their book, Henri the horse, can be best described as a goofball. “He sticks his tongue out all the time, he gives you side eye when he doesn’t want to do something,” said Kendra Loring, founder of Enchanted Equine.

Eight years ago, Henri suffered a massive neck wound while working at a ranch. He could no longer do the job. His previous owners decided to give him up and that’s how he ended up at Enchanted Equine Adventures. “When we took him, he was sad and depressed, couldn’t be ridden couldn’t have his feet picked up. He had lots of issues, we worked with him slowly,” said Loring.

Henri healed from his injury and started working as a riding horse giving him another chance at life. Loring knew Henri had a story to tell. She says it’s a story of resilience and perseverance.

Loring says it took years to put all the stories together for her book. She felt like the world needed more stories about rescue horses who not only found loving homes forever but also found jobs.

There’s some heavy stuff in the book, Henri deals with depression and not knowing where he fits in in life with him coming through the other side. She hopes this book will inspire people like some of the students that ride Henri.

“Just don’t give u,p like if you want to accomplish something you can. I think that’s kind of what Henri gives off,” said Madeline Harvold, student rider.

The book, The Saga of Henri Standing Bear, is on sale on Amazon and Loring is looking to turn Henri’s book into a short-animated series.
