In response to the extreme heat forecast for the coming days, Humboldt County is opening cooling centers at the Hoopa, Willow Creek and Garberville library branches. These centers will provide a safe and cool environment for residents seeking relief from high temperatures that are expected to reach into the 100s in some locations.
Avenue of the Giants Reopens After Fish Creek Construction Completion
The southern end of the Avenue of the Giants, renowned for curving through majestic redwoods along the South Fork of the Eel River, has reopened to traffic after a year of closure. The closure was due to a major construction project aimed at enhancing fish passage in Fish Creek, just north of Phillipsville. The contractor has finished the work, and the road is now fully accessible to the public.
