Downtown Pittsburgh restaurant ordered to close in recent health department report
Caravan on Smithfield Street in Downtown Pittsburgh was ordered to close after a recent inspection. A report from the Allegheny County Health Department on July 17 cites multiple violations found in the restaurant. This is the second time this year that Caravan has been ordered to close. Annual Heritage Festival fishing derby is Saturday
The annual Oil Heritage Festival children’s fishing derby, sponsored by the Oil City chapter of the Izaak Walton League of America, will take place on Saturday at Waltonian Park off Deep Hollow Road. Registration opens at 8 a.m., and fishing runs from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Due to traffic issues from the Veterans Bridge closure, parents are advised to plan for timely arrival. The derby features three age divisions with prizes, including a grand prize of an outdoor adventure package. Age groups are 5-6, 7-9, and 10-12, with possible adjustments for balance. Children must be accompanied by a guardian to sign registration forms and should bring their own fishing poles, though bait will be provided. Parents can help with baiting and clearing lines, and may assist younger children with casting.
