ALLIANCE ‒ Daughtry's "Superman" may not have been written about a rascally kitten, but the song served as a fitting soundtrack to an unusual animal rescue that two police officers made Tuesday.

With help from city firefighters, they removed a long-haired calico from the underside of a powered reclining chair at a home on Summit Street.

The cat had apparently climbed into the chair's mechanism, getting its fur and skin caught in the gears.

"Alliance Police Department Officers Bob Rajcan and Tye Lauener pulled off a nice kitten save today, except not from a tree or a sewer like we've seen at APD in the past," said the police department post made on Facebook late Tuesday.

Alliance cat rescue: 'Not your typical police work'

"Not your typical police work, but they did a great job helping the family save the little thing," the post said. "Big thanks to the City of Alliance Fire Department for their assistance as well! Kitten is doing well!"

The police department post on social media includes a video that is 2 minutes and 34 seconds long. It shows an officer taking apart the chair's mechanism with a socket wrench. A cutting tool is then used to remove the remaining materials in which the kitten was ensnared.

Dubbed over the body-worn camera video is "Superman," its lyrics seeming to capture the kitten's viewpoint: "She's waiting for Superman/To lift her up/And take her anywhere/Show her love/And climbing through the air/Save her now/Before it's too late tonight."

The video ends with a female firefighter holding the fluffy kitten against her chest.

The police department's Facebook post about the rescue received many positive comments by Wednesday morning.

"Thank you for saving this baby!" wrote Annie Antalek. "This is also a good (public service announcement) for how young animals can get stuck in these chairs."

The Twinsburg Police Association wrote, "Great work!" Others gave similar salutes.

"Thank you for saving this kitty," wrote Rhonda Dean Reel. "You guys are awesome."
