ALMENA TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — One man is in the hospital and another is in jail after a Friday evening stabbing in Almena Township.

Around 9:10 p.m., deputies with the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office were sent to the area of M-43 near 29th Street for a stabbing.

Responding deputies learned that there had been a fight about food and employment between two men who lived at the home and one of them had been stabbed. Both men were under the influence of alcohol at the time.

The victim, a 21-year-old, was taken to the hospital with an apparent stab wound to the chest. The sheriff’s office said he was last listed in stable but serious condition.

The suspect, a 22-year-old from Guatemala, was arrested and is being held in the Van Buren County Jail on a charge of assault with intent to commit murder.

    The stabbing remains under investigation.
