Keene SwampBats win close game at Valley
The SwampBats scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch in a 5-4 victory at the Valley Blue Sox on Wednesday. Joe Jaconski (Penn State) walked as the first batter of the game and advanced to second when David Mendez (Vanderbilt) reached on an error by the third baseman. Sam Biller (Connecticut) then hit a deep fly ball to left but the Valley left fielder made an unbelievable catch as he dove toward the outfield wall to take away an extra-base hit. The next hitter, Nick Romano (Florida Atlantic) singled in Jaconski. In the second, Andrew Wiggins (Indiana) singled through the left side and JD Jones (Rutgers) was hit by a pitch. Wake Forest’s Austin Hawke absolutely clobbered a double 383 feet to straight away center field to score Wiggins, and Jones scored on Jaconski’s subsequent sacrifice fly to make it 3-0. Connecticut’s Joe Carrea allowed no runs through two innings, but the Blue Sox got on the board with a single, a walk, and two flyouts in the third.

Keene SwampBats Drop Doubleheader at Vineyard
The Martha’s Vineyard Sharks swept the SwampBats 7-3 and 2-1 in a pair of seven inning games. In game one, Martha’s Vineyard batted first as the provisional road team for a rescheduled game. The Sharks hit three singles in a row to start the game and plate one run. A fielder’s choice doubled the lead as the SwampBats recorded their first out. Pitcher Ben Shenosky (Penn State) settled in after that, retiring seven of the next eight batters through the third. Bryce Molinaro (Penn State) led off the bottom of the third with a single through the left side. As JD Jones (Rutgers) got ready for a 3-2 pitch, Molinaro took off from first. Jones laced a base hit to right-center, and Molinaro chugged all the way around third to dive home safely on the single. Joe Jaconski (Penn State) scored Jones with a monster double to the wall in left-center, and then came home on a David Mendez (Vanderbilt) single up the middle which gave the SwampBats a 3-2 lead. The Sharks tied it with a solo home run in the top of the fourth, but Shenosky got the next three outs quickly, finishing his four-strikeout outing by picking off a runner at first base.
Valley Blue Sox’s comeback falls short at home against Keene Swamp Bats
