OLNEY PRINCIPAL SERVING AS ILLINOIS PRINCIPALS ASSOCIATION PRESIDENT
(SPRINGFIELD) Congratulations to a Richland County school administrator as the Illinois Principals Association (IPA) has announced that Cris Edwards, principal of Richland County Elementary School in Olney, will serve as President of the IPA for the 2024-2025 school term. A member of the Illinois Principals Association since 2007, Edwards has most recently served as the State Director for the Wabash Valley region and a member of the IPA Board of Directors, plus she was named Illinois Elementary Principal of the Year in 2023, received the Wabash Valley “Reaching Out & Building Bridges” award in 2021, and the Wabash Valley Herman Graves award in 2019. Edwards began her career in education in 1992 as a Language Arts & Current Events teacher in Tuscon, Arizona, moving to Edwards County High School in Albion as Economics, Government, & Language Arts teacher and on to Parkview Junior High School in Lawrenceville as Social Sciences teacher before becoming an administrator in the Richland County School District in 2007.

With Tractor registration from 8:00 to 10:00 and Truck & Jeep signup from 9:00 to 11:00, the judging is at 12 noon with various categories and the awards & dash plaques announced at 12:30. Also a skillet throw & fan belt toss at 10:00, auction at 11:00, pedal tractor pull at 1:00, and tractor games at 2:00, concluded by a Tractor Parade. DACC Enhances Automotive Program with Electric Vehicles

DANVILLE — Danville Area Community College (DACC) has announced an important development in its Automotive Technology program, integrating electric vehicle (EV) technology into its curriculum. This summer, Automotive Technologies Professors Alan Wilson and Dean Graves, along with Manufacturing Professor Todd Flessner, participated in a 40-hour boot camp at Weber State University in Utah. Led by Professor John Kelly, the training included 65 hours of comprehensive education—25 hours online and 40 hours of hands-on instruction—focused on electric vehicle maintenance.

Pekin High School Artist Earns Prestigious Honor in the 17th District Congressional Art Competition
Congressman Eric Sorensen (IL-17) congratulated Pekin Community High School senior Rachel Fry on winning the 2024 Congressional Art Competition for Illinois’ 17th District. Her winning submission, Clownish Tomfoolery, will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol Building for one year. “Young people across Central and Northwestern Illinois are going to be the key to ensuring our neighborhoods are prosperous for generations to come,” said Sorensen. “It is an honor to host this competition that celebrates the amazing artistic abilities of our high school students. It is my hope that these competitions inspire more students to pursue their passions.” The Congressional Art Competition began in 1982 and has accepted more than 650,000 pieces of art from high schoolers nationwide. Artwork from each congressional district is selected to be displayed at the U.S. Capitol.
