Curve pitcher named to All-Star Futures Game roster

ALTOONA, Pa. (WTAJ) — Curve right-hander Bubba Chandler has been named to the National League roster for the All-Star Futures Game.

Chandler, who is listed as the No. 62 prospect in all of baseball according to MLB Pipeline, will be heading to Globe Life Field in Texas for All-Star weekend this July.

The young pitcher joins the National League roster that includes fellow Pirates prospect in-fielder Termarr Johnson.

Texas Rangers legends Adrian Beltre (American League) and Michael Young (National League) will manage each team for the game slated for July 13.

Altoona has had 21 previous players selected to the MLB All-Star Futures Game since 1999. This includes Catcher Henry Davis, RHP Roansy Contreras, and 3B Ke’Bryan Hayes, who was the last Curve member to participate in the game in 2018.

Chandler could become the first active Curve player to pitch in the game since Dovydas Neverauskas did in 2016 at Petco Park in San Diego.

This season, after returning from the injured list on May 29, Chandler has gone 3-2 with a 2.76 ERA in six outings. In 29.1 innings pitched, Chandler has walked just four batters while streaking out 38.

Chandler is scheduled to pitch on July 3 at Harrisburg before heading to Texas for the Futures Game.
