BLAIR COUNTY, Pa. (WTAJ) — A 25-year-old was rushed to UPMC Altoona after his Harley-Davidson crashed on Interstate 99 and the gas tank exploded, state police report.

The crash happened on I-99 in Freedom Township Wednesday night around 9:40 p.m. when the rider of the Harley-Davidson was headed north and drifted into the median and hit a guide wire. The driver was thrown from the Harley and crawled across both lanes of traffic to a grassy area.

The motorcycle’s fuel tank punctured, spilling gas on the highway as it came to a stop in the right lane. Another vehicle was headed north on I-99 and hit the motorcycle, causing an explosion when the gas ignited.

The unnamed driver, a 25-year-old man from Patton, was rushed to UPMC Altoona. The driver of the other vehicle and three underage passengers reported no injuries.
