ALTOONA, Pa. (WTAJ) — The Pittsburgh Pirates announced Friday afternoon that Isiah Kiner-Falefa, acquired in a trade earlier this week, will rehab in Altoona with the Curve starting Friday.

On Tuesday, July 30, just before the MLB Trade Deadline, the Pirates acquired Kiner-Falefa from the Toronto Blue Jays in exchange for Curve infielder Charles McAdoo. Kiner-Falefa is making his way back to the majors following a left knee injury he suffered in July.

The newest Pirate is in the middle of his career-best season at the plate, where he’s posed a .292 batting average with eight doubles, two triples and seven home runs with 33 RBIs in 82 games. Kiner-Falefa, who is related to Pirates Hall of Famer Ralph Kiner, has also been deemed one of the game’s most versatile players for his ability to play shortstop, third base, catcher, second, base, and the outfield.

This is Kiner-Falefa’s fourth team since joining the league in 2018 when he played with the Texas Rangers. He inked a two-year deal with Toronto in the off-season following a two-year stint with the New York Yankees.

Kiner-Falefa will play shortstop Friday evening for the Curve and will bat second in the lineup.
