    Altoona's Sofas for Service help make a house a home

    ALTOONA — For formerly unhoused veterans, the joy of finally getting a home can be lessened by the realization that many of these homes lack even basic furniture. However, a nonprofit in Altoona is looking to change that.

    “We provide new and gently used furniture to veterans that are in need of it, for a variety of reasons,” said Jeff Staads, president of Sofas for Service. “We started tracking some things and noticed that a little over 80% of the veterans we provide furniture and furnishings to have gone from homeless to housing.”
