Pedestrian fatality reported in Altus, investigation underway

JACKSON COUNTY, Okla. ( KFDX/KJTL ) — The Oklahoma Highway Patrol has been called in to assist Altus police in their investigation into a pedestrian fatality early Tuesday morning.
According to Tim Murphy, Chief of the Altus Police Department, officers responded to a report of a pedestrian who was killed near the intersection of South Main Street and Ridgecrest Road in Altus at around 4:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 2, 2024.
Chief Murphy said the driver of a semi-truck reported the accident and is cooperating with the investigation into the pedestrian’s death.
According to Chief Murphy, the deceased male pedestrian has not been positively identified at this time. He said the body has been transported to the Office of the Oklahoma State Medical Examiner.
Chief Murphy said Altus PD has requested OHP’s assistance with the investigation. He said multiple agencies assisted with the investigation, including Altus Fire and Rescue, EMS and the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department.
According to Chief Murphy, additional information on this investigation will be released by the Oklahoma Department of Public Safety.
