The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development said at midnight on Saturday, Aug. 31, the Cameron Ferry will be removed from service in preparation for its United States Coast Guard mandated dry dock. The department has arranged for a relief ferry to continue limited service across the ship channel.

While the relief ferry is in service, any vehicle combinations longer than 50 feet will be required to detour and may use I-10. The boat launch on the west side of the Calcasieu River, adjacent to the ferry landing, will be closed to ensure safety while the relief ferry is in service.

The Cameron Ferry is expected to be in dry dock for about six months after work begins. During the scheduled downtime, the Cameron Ferry will undergo its mid-cycle hull exam, internal structural exam and rehab/repairs to major mechanical systems.
