Before Huey Lewis created a band and contributed to the soundtrack of the iconic film Back to the Future, the singer hitchhiked around the country. Hoping to get back to New York, the songwriter used his time waiting on rides to learn how to play the harmonica. No longer needing to hitch rides from strangers, Huey Lewis and the News released ten studio albums while selling over 30 million records worldwide. With such a rich history in the music industry, it appears that Lewis is preparing to head to television with a new sitcom focused on his struggles with hearing loss.

Titled Whatever Happened to Huey Lewis, the sitcom is slated as a mockumentary surrounding his life with Menier’s disease. Diagnosed back in 2018, the singer stepped away from the stage as he suffered from severe hearing loss. Speaking about his life, Lewis said, “I have a thing they called Ménière’s disease. But it’s not really a disease, it’s a syndrome based on symptoms and they really don’t know what it is. I’ve been everywhere, and it just sort of happens. You get vertigo and you lose your hearing, but what you gonna do?”

Huey Lewis Expanded His Career To Television And Even Broadway

With Lewis looking to have a little fun surrounding his life in the spotlight, the singer landed a producer credit alongside Jimmy Kimmel. As for the writing duties, Kirker Butler, who worked on Family Guy and Only Murders in the Building, will write and produce the sitcom.

For Lewis, this isn’t his first time on television as he appeared in shows like The King of Queens and One Tree Hill. And taking a trip back to 1985, he listened to his hit songs “Back in Time” and “The Power of Love” travel through time in Back to the Future.

While no longer performing on stage, Lewis and his band released their last studio album back in 2020 called Weather. The album gained praise from fans as the singer went on to create a Broadway musical focusing on his music career. The musical, The Heart of Rock and Roll, opened in April. Sadly, the musical didn’t last long, eventually ending in June. Still, with a rich lineup of iconic songs, Whatever Happened to Huey Lewis could be his step back into the spotlight.
