Lukas Nelson’s Acoustic Rendition of Unreleased Love Song Has Fans “Hanging on Every Note”

In recent months Lukas Nelson has been on the Outlaw Music Festival Tour and performing covers. However, much like his father, Nelson is an expert songsmith who can delve into the human condition with his lyrics. Over the weekend, he took to social media to remind his fans and followers of his songwriting prowess.

Nelson didn’t give much information about the song he’s playing in the video. The post’s caption simply reads, “Been working on a new one. Let me know what you think.” The untitled new tune is a surreal love song. In the lyrics, Nelson sings about the mystery and reality of love.

“Hanging on every note and every word that you say,” one fan wrote in the comment section. Another added, “This is lovely, it touches my heart about someone who is close but far away. Thank you.”

Lukas Nelson on Writing Songs with a Purpose

Last year, Lukas Nelson sat down with Songwriting Magazine to discuss the writing process for the Promise of the Real album Sticks and Stones. “I wrote this album when I was on the road,” he revealed. “After A Few Stars Apart, touring on that record, which was a songwriter’s mellow album, I realized that a lot of people wanted to get up out of their seats and dance, I could sense that they wanted to rock and have a good time,” he added. “So I wrote all these songs for this record with that in mind. Now, I get to go play these songs live and it becomes a big party.”

Nelson went on to explain that he will write songs to fill slots in his setlists if he doesn’t already have the right one to fill a slot. “It doesn’t really matter where I write. I was looking at putting together the setlist every night and trying to figure out what songs to play,” he recalled. “And I realize that there were some missing slots. I wanted to be able to play an upbeat song at this point in the set, and I didn’t have one. So, I wrote one. That’s how it would go,” he explained.
