In the ’70s and ’80s, Journey found commercial success with hits like “Don’t Stop Believin’” and “Open Arms.” Today, guitarist and vocalist Neal Schon is the lone holdover from the band’s original lineup. Currently, Schon performs with Jonathan Cain, Jason Derlatka, Deen Castronovo, Arnel Pineda and Todd Jensen. Recently, Cain and Schon became embroiled in a legal battle when the former sued Schon for apparent overspending. Now, Schon is is firing back at the keyboardist’s accusations.

Jonathan Cain accused Neal Schon of overspending the band’s money in a 2022 legal filing. Now, he is accusing the Journey guitarist of once again spending the group’s coin too freely.

In a lawsuit filed earlier this month, Cain claimed that the 70-year-old rocker and his wife maxed out an American Express account with a $1 million limit. Additionally, the suit alleges that Schon ignored the band’s daily hotel fee cap of $1,500. Instead, he spent “up to $10,000 per night.”

Responding to a Facebook comment, Schon publicly refuted the claims for the first time Sunday (Aug. 11) in a lengthy post on X, formerly known as Twitter.

“[Absolute] rubbish,” the former Santana member wrote. “I don’t know why people believe Media.”

The Journey guitarist continued, “We are traveling no differently than we have for many many years, including Jon Cain. He and his wife deciding to take a bus and the 11th hour was his own decision. The rest of the band ARNEL and his children, my wife myself, Deen Castronovo, Todd Jensen, Jason, along with crew and Security travel on one jet that was all ‘approved in our budget’ what was also approved in our budget, as we have done for years, my wife and I have great relationships with different managers of hotels. They got us great deals if we want to upgrade all have understood for many years as she travels with me every show it comes out of my pocket in the end, this was also ‘approved’ in our private zoom meetings with Jon and Paula I do pay for it and always have.”
