While Chris Stapleton found a home in country music with hit songs like “You Should Probably Leave” and “Tennessee Whiskey”, the singer did more than just build a career on stage. Outside of releasing five studio albums and winning ten Grammy Awards, Stapleton is also a talented songwriter. Although not that shocking, the country singer used a great deal of his time in music helping others bring their songs to life. Over the years, Stapleton worked with stars like Kelly Clarkson, Brad Paisley, Taylor Swift, Sheryl Crow, and even Adele. And when asked what he thought about when giving up his songs, the growing icon had the perfect response.

When discussing his career in country music, CBS News’ Anthony Mason presented an interesting question when it came to Stapleton’s songs. Asked if he had difficulty giving up his songs to other singers, Stapleton appeared content just helping expand the genre. The singer explained how many artists are somewhat territorial over their songs, but for Stapleton, he loved the process of helping others.

The Reason Chris Stapleton Started A Career In Songwriting

Stapleton even pointed to an earlier time of music and how many artists loved it when another singer performed their songs. Seeing it as one of the highest honors, fans praised Stapleton’s honesty. “I put Stapleton in the same league as Cash, Kristofferson, Nelson, Jennings, Haggard, and Jones.” Another comment included, “He’s genuine country. Bringing back the old country. Love it.”

In other parts of the interview, Stapleton opened up about starting his career as a songwriter. “Well the instant I found out somebody would pay you to sit in a room and write songs and play guitar all day, I thought, well, man, that’s the job for me. I’m gonna figure out how to do that.” Asked what he loved about songwriting, Stapleton continued, “Pluckin’ somethin’ outta the air. Waitin’ on somethin’ to be there that wasn’t, you know.”

Outside of the studio, Stapleton grew a family with Morgan Stapleton. But besides being his wife, Morgan and Stapleton are performers. “She’s my partner in life and in business, and on stage, in every possible way, shape and form. She believes in me more than I do a lot of times.”
