Tanya Tucker Recieves the Susan G. Komen Promise Award

Many country fans know Tanya Tucker for hits like “Delta Dawn,” “If It Don’t Come Easy,” or “Strong Enough to Bend.” More recently, a new audience found her music when she made a comeback with her comeback albums While I’m Livin’ and Sweet Western Sound. However, Tucker is also a philanthropist who puts time, energy, and money toward breast cancer awareness and other related causes. As a result, she was the recipient of this year’s Susan G. Komen Promise Award.

Tucker received the award during a ceremony in Nashville, Tennessee on Saturday (August 24). The Promise Award is “presented to those who have gone above and beyond in the fight to help end breast cancer through their philanthropy, advocacy, and commitment to reaching those impacted by the disease,” according to press materials. The award honors the promise that Susan G. Komen founder Nancy Brinker made to end breast cancer in 1982.

Tucker has done various things that put her in the running for the Promise Award. For instance, she headlined the annual Kiss Breast Cancer Goodbye benefit concert. With that event, she helped raise more than $30,000 for breast cancer research and patient services. On a more personal level, she dyed her hair pink in honor of her close friend Shirley Burns’ fight against breast cancer.

Paula Schneider, president and CEO of Susan G. Komen, spoke about Tucker in a press release. “Tanya Tucker not only captivates audiences with her extraordinary star power and compassion on stage, but she has also used her talents and platform to raise awareness for those affected by breast cancer,” Schneider shared. “We are so grateful for Tanya lending her voice to several Komen initiatives over the years, and it is with great honor that we present her with the 2024 Promise Award as she continues to help us save lives.”

Joshua Daniel, the Tennessee executive director for Susan G. Komen also praised Tucker. “Tanya is a prominent voice in the fight against breast cancer and we are excited to present her with the 2024 Promise Award. In presenting her with this award, we wanted to acknowledge her advocacy for this cause and express our appreciation for her ongoing support,” he said.
