The country music world is still mourning the loss of an icon. Toby Keith died in February at age 62 following a two-year battle with stomach cancer. The “Should’ve Been a Cowboy” singer left an indelible mark on the genre, selling more than 40 million albums and logging 20 No. 1 hits. Last month (July 29), a star-studded lineup gathered at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena to give Keith a proper send-off. And on Wednesday (Aug. 28) fans can watch Toby Keith: An American Icon from the comfort of their living rooms.

Will ‘Toby Keith: An American Icon’ Be Available For Streaming?

Yes. Toby Keith: An American Icon will initially air Wednesday (Aug. 28) at 9 p.m. Eastern on NBC. But if you can’t catch it then, don’t worry. The two-hour tribute special will be available for streaming on Peacock the next day (Thursday, Aug. 29.)

    Who Is Performing?

Many of Nashville’s A-listers. Confirmed performers include Luke Bryan, Eric Church, Ashley McBryde, Jelly Roll, Darius Rucker, Blake Shelton, Carrie Underwood, and Lainey Wilson. All will honor Toby Keith with their own renditions of his musical catalog.

Additionally, Krystal Keith, the late country star’s daughter, will perform “Don’t Let The Old Man In.” The emotional ballad appeared on the 2018 compilation Greatest Hits: The Dog Show Years.

In a recent interview with The Tennessean, the country singer-songwriter admitted that she initially had mixed feelings about being a part of her father’s tribute. And once she agreed, “Don’t Let The Old Man In” wasn’t exactly the track she had in mind.

“I was like, ‘I was hoping I could get through a fun party song, and that one, I don’t know that I can get through,’” Krystal Keith said. “So, it really took me about a week to wrap my head around whether or not I could perform that and get through it and make him proud without breaking down.”

Ultimately, Krystal said the “Beer For My Horses” hitmaker would have wanted her to perform the song.

“He would make fun of me if I screwed it up and I said I couldn’t do it,” she said. “I can do anything I put my mind to, so I’m gonna do it. I just had to get in the headspace of ‘OK, I’m a professional, and I’ve got to get through this song.’ … I started losing it right at the end, but I cried after I sang it, which is about the right time to cry.”
