Known for his wild antics on stage, Screamin’ Scott Simon loved to entertain fans as he could play the piano with his feet. But besides loving the spotlight, the pianist was also a masterful songwriter. He helped not only many singers find the perfect words but he also helped propel Sha Na Na into the mainstream. Joining the group in the 1970s, Simon stayed with Sha Na Na until the members decided to go separate ways in December 2022. Having produced a prosperous career in music, Simon’s daughter recently announced the musician passed away at 75 years old.

Having battled with sinus cancer for some time, Simon’s daughter, Nina Simon, shared the heartbreaking news that the musician lost his fight. Taking a moment to remember her father on Instagram, Nina posted a collage of pictures that focused on Simon’s love for his family. She wrote, “My dad was a rock star. Literally. A member of Sha Na Na for over 50 years. He loved early morning diners and late nights onstage. But he loved his girls most of all.”

    Fans Remember Screamin’ Scott Simon

Giving just a taste of what it was like to grow up with Simon as a father, Nina continued, “Screamin’ Scott Simon (1948-2024). Beloved husband, father, and grandfather (Boppa). Singer of songs, flipper of banana-blueberry pancakes. Funster and joy-bringer. Reader and thinker. Pink yoga pants wearer, banjo picker, kayfabe intellectual, boogie woogie piano king. Mensch.”

Gaining numerous titles over the years, Nina recalled the time she spent with him over the last few months. “Boppa often said the secret to life is tour management. I feel so grateful I got to be with him as he prepared for his final tour. It was too soon, but as always, he was right on time for the big show. I love you forever.”

Fans filled the comment section with love and support for Simon, writing, “Your father sent so much creativity and joy into the world — and you have followed in his footsteps! My sincere condolences to you and your family.” Another person added, “I’m spinning my Sha Na Na vinyl right now in honor/memory of your dad! “
