AMHERST, Wis. - Stevens Point Police Chief Robert Kussow is asking people who live in the Village of Amherst to shelter in place and stay away from windows.

Armed and dangerous suspect 32-year-old Jeffrey Miller is wanted in Sauk County after leading officers on a chase and firing shots injuring one officer Tuesday.

Portage County, Stevens Point Police, and the Marathon County Special Response Teams responded to a scene at 450 Mill Avenue. Miller fled into the house and began shooting at police.

News 3 Now affiliate NewsChannel 7 report that Stevens Point Police and teams are working to remove Miller from the home. Power has been cut to area buildings as a result.

Numerous law enforcement tactics have been deployed, but the suspect has not surrendered. Police will remain on scene until the situation is resolved.
