AMITE, La. ( WGNO ) — A former Amite jail employee and an inmate were both arrested on Friday, July 19, following a fight earlier this month.
According to the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office, on July 4, the jail employee, 20-year-old Jaden Lamark, had gotten into an argument with the inmate, 36-year-old Sanchez Harold, through cell doors.
The TPSO reports that the argument escalated when Harold allegedly threw an unknown liquid at Lamark. Lamark called for the closed cell door to be opened and allegedly proceeded to hit Harold several times, which led to the inmate being checked for injuries at the jail medical office.
Lamark was immediately written up and placed on administrative leave as the situation was investigated, while Harold remained in the jail.
Once the investigation was completed, Lamark, who had been working with the TPSO since December 2023, was fired and charged with simple battery and malfeasance in office.
Harold, who had been at the jail since July 3 on fugitive warrants from other jurisdictions, was charged with battery of a correctional facility employee.
Sheriff Gerald Sticker reacted by saying, “As I’ve said since before, I became sheriff 19 days ago, I have a new set of standards for this agency and the men and women that represent it. This behavior is far from those standards and will not be tolerated. I stand with every person in this agency as long as they’re doing their part to stand with each other to preserve the credibility of the work we do and the service we provide to the public who entrusts us with their safety.”
