The Latest Storm Tracker Forecast from Meteorologist Kevin Appleby:

Cleanup continues this morning after an intense line of severe thunderstorms swept through the News10 viewing area on Tuesday. Dry through midday, the risk for showers and thunderstorms increases after lunchtime ahead of a cold front, with the potential again for some of these storms to turn severe. Much less humid weather will then build in for the remainder of the week.

Temperatures once again push 90 in the Hudson Valley before t-storms arrive. Head index values will approach 95 given the elevated humidity in place. Heat Advisories have been issued for these areas.

Storms will move in from the northwest mid-afternoon, growing in coverage and intensity as they traverse to the southeast. For these reasons, the Storm Prediction Center has places areas southeast of Amsterdam in a Level 2/5 Slight Risk for Severe Storms. This is driven by a straight-line wind threat, with isolated wind gusts near 60 MPH possible with some of these thunderstorms into early this evening.

Timing looks very similar to what we had yesterday, maybe just 30-60 minutes earlier. Additionally, unlike yesterday’s storms, I don’t think every household will see a t-storm this afternoon.

Once we get through today, we will experience a well-deserved break from the heat and humidity. Today is just one final hill to climb before that happens.

Decreasing clouds and humidity overnight with temperatures dropping into the low to mid 60s. Some of the higher spots may even drop into the 50s! Low temperatures in the 50s are more likely for Friday and Saturday mornings.

Tomorrow will feel noticeably different from the past few days with seasonable temperatures and lower humidity levels. There will be a pretty good breeze out of the west, with expected wind gusts around 30 MPH.

Lower humidity will carry into the upcoming weekend, but temperatures will start to increase. However, Friday’s weather is nothing short of phenomenal with lots of sunshine, low humidity and seasonable temperatures!

The 7-day forecast gets a bit uncertain late Saturday in terms of rainfall chances. Most guidance have just a few showers in the vicinity – about a 20% chance each day, meaning most stay dry. Tuesday I have a bit higher confidence in a few showers, but it’s still looking far from a soaker!
