North Carolina's governor disagrees with other governors who are supporting Texas Governor Greg Abbott (R) in his dispute with the federal government over border control.

“A bipartisan Senate is close to the strongest border security law in a generation but Donald Trump is telling Republicans to stop because a tough border law hurts his campaign. If Republican Governors really wanted strong border security now they would release a joint statement supporting this legislation instead of one that bows to Trump and urges violating the constitution and the rule of law.”

~ North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper

The governor of North Carolina is the only governor in the Southeast who is not supporting Abbott.

In an apparent disregard for a ruling by the Supreme Court, the Texas National Guard started erecting razor wire barriers on the border between the United States and Mexico on Tuesday, obstructing the federal Border Patrol's ability to carry out its duties.

Abbott defended the moves in a statement released on Wednesday, saying his right to stop a state "invasion" "supersedes" federal law.

Abbott expressly asserts in his statement on Wednesday that the federal government has "broken the compact" with the states, which serves as justification for disregarding the Supreme Court and federal law.
