Special Statement Issued for NC Counties

A Fire Danger Warning has been issued for the following counties in North Carolina: Alleghany, NC; Surry, NC; Stokes, NC; Rockingham, NC; Caswell, NC; Wilkes, NC; Yadkin, NC

It is advised to not burn because the low humidity with strong wind gusts could result in uncontrollable fires.

The NWS has issued the following statement:

"Special Weather Statement issued March 18 at 8:28PM EDT by NWS Blacksburg VA

After coordination with local land managers, a Fire Danger Statement has been issued for the Foothills and Piedmont of North Carolina, as well as Virginia counties along and east of the Blue Ridge, and parts of the southern Shenandoah Valley. In these affected areas, gusty winds will coincide with low humidity and dry fuels. Fires will have an easier time starting and spreading. Refer to your local burn-permitting authority on whether you may burn today. If you do burn, exercise extreme caution."
