A hit-and-run suspect led Anaheim police on a pursuit early Friday, with officers twice opening fire at the suspect during the chase and eventually bringing it to a stop with a PIT maneuver.

According to police, officers witnessed a hit-and-run collision just before 3:45 a.m. and attempted to stop the suspect, but he drove off and initiated a chase, during which he allegedly struck a patrol vehicle and pointed a gun at pursuing officers.

The chase led into the parking lot of a McDonald's restaurant in the 1100 block of North State College Boulevard, where officers opened fire on the suspect, according to the Anaheim Police Department.

The pursuit resumed and a second shooting occurred on State College Boulevard near the Riverside (91) Freeway, police said. The suspect was not struck in either shooting.

Officers eventually used a PIT maneuver, spinning the suspect's vehicle to a stop in the 2800 block of East Virginia Street, police said.

The suspect, Milton Urquiza Cruz, 31, of San Pedro, was arrested and police said a firearm was recovered from the vehicle.

Cruz was booked into the Anaheim Police Department's Detention Facility on suspicion of offenses including assault on a peace officer, possession of a firearm by a felon or prohibited person, possession of ammunition by a felon or prohibited person, felony evading, misdemeanor hit-and- run and a felony arrest warrant.

No officers or members of the community were injured as a result of the pursuit or shootings, police said.
