Marion Fire Department Offers Firework Safety Tips
In 2017, Iowa lawmakers passed a law that allows the sale and use of fireworks in the state. In Marion, the City Council has determined that fireworks may be used only on July 4 from noon-11 p.m. and on Dec. 31/Jan. 1 from 6:30 p.m.-12:30 a.m. Any other dates and times are authorized by permit only.

Marion will host its 5th annual Fireworks & Fireflies celebration tonight. This free event will take place at the Klopfenstein Amphitheater at Lowe Park beginning at 6 p.m. Enjoy live music by the FunkDaddies starting at 7 p.m. Food trucks, face painting and a grand fireworks finale will round out the event. Organizers are pleased to welcome Hanna Plumbing & Heating, Inc. as the event’s presenting sponsor. The Red-level sponsors are the Marion Chamber of Commerce, Mediacom, Corda Credit Union and the City of Marion. Attendees can bring lawn chairs, blankets and coolers. For the first time, a beverage tent offering beer and seltzers will be available for purchase from the Marion Chamber. Patrons are asked to leave pets, sparklers, fireworks and pop-up tents at home. Free shuttles to Lowe Park from the Linn-Mar High School parking lot will be available starting at 6 p.m. Additional details, including a list of FAQs and a parking map, are available at cityofmarion.org/fireworks.
