LBW Community College sophomore Bailey Maddox was awarded with the 2024-2025 mascot scholarship to serve as Blue in an announcement made during National Mascot Day on Monday, June 17.

A 2023 Opp High School alumnus, Maddox is studying Childhood Development.

“Receiving the mascot scholarship is a huge blessing and a great opportunity for me to get closer to my community. To me, it’s not just about the scholarship. It’s mostly about getting to know the people in my community and making new friends who will become a part of my family. I am very thankful and blessed to have this opportunity given to me,” Maddox said.

Blue, a Saint Bernard, was announced as the college’s first mascot in the summer of 2022. This will be Maddox’s second opportunity to serve as a school mascot.

“I chose to apply for the role of Blue at LBW this year because I have a love for making people and children laugh and use their imagination for joy. I have been in a mascot suit exactly one time in high school because they needed someone for it, so I volunteered. I look most forward to being with children, traveling, and supporting our amazing sports teams,” she said.

She is excited about the chance to serve as the next Blue for LBWCC.

“With my chosen career, I hope this opportunity gives me the chance to get to know people even outside of my community to help me build something I am truly passionate about. I have chosen to pursue Childhood Development as my career in hopes of operating and running my own daycare in the near future. I would like to thank my family for always pushing me to do my best no matter what,” Maddox said.

Bailey is the daughter of Suzanne and Shane Lunsford. She has a younger brother, Payten, and a younger sister, Gradyn.

“We are so excited to welcome Bailey to the Saints family as Blue. There is nothing more important to LBW than our ability to interact with all generations in our community, and our mascot program allows us to do just that. We are pumped for another great year at LBW,” LBWCC Director of Student and Community Engagement Katie King said.
