74-year-old shot, killed by husband in Anderson Co.

ANDERSON, S.C. (WSPA) – The coroner’s office in Anderson is investigating the death of a woman they said was shot by her husband.

According to the Anderson County Coroner’s Office, deputies received a call for a shooting around 11:20 p.m. Monday night on Harpers Way.

The victim, identified as 74-year-old Sally Brainerd, was rendered aid but died from her injuries on the scene.

The coroner’s office has ruled the death a homicide by gunshot wound.

Brainerd’s husband, 79-year-old Edwin Brainerd Jr., was arrested after an initial investigation showed the two were involved in a fight prior to the shooting.

Arrest warrants said Edwin Brainerd shot Sally Brainerd in the back with a shotgun during the argument.

When law enforcement arrived at the scene, officials said Edwin Brainerd was standing over the victim’s body exclaiming ‘he shot her.’

Brainerd is charged with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime. He is currently booked in the Anderson County Detention Center awaiting bond.
