79-year-old Anderson man charged in wife's death, couple's daughter called police

An Anderson man has been charged in the death of his wife, according to the Anderson County Sheriff's Office.

According to Carrie Miller with the Anderson County Sheriff's Office, detectives with the ACSO charged Edwin Brainerd Jr., 79, of Anderson, with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.

Around 11:20 Monday night, Anderson County Communications received a call from a woman regarding a shooting. When ACSO deputies arrived at a home on Harpers Way Road, they discovered Sally Brainerd, 74, in a bedroom with gunshot wounds on her back.

The call was from the couple’s daughter, who fled the home and called from a neighbor’s residence.

According to the Anderson County Coroner's Office, first responders rendered aid to Sally Brainerd, but she died at the scene.

The warrants stated the two had a verbal argument, which caused the shooting.

According to Miller, Brainerd is currently booked in the Anderson County Detention Center and is awaiting a bond hearing.
