Good evening everyone. As we watch scattered severe weather in parts of the Ohio River Valley and interior parts of the Northeast begin to fizzle out with the help of sunset, we turn our eyes towards the Southeast.

Severe thunderstorms have already pushed through the Atlanta Metro Area, and now continuing onward into the Athens, GA area. Storms have had a history of 60+ mph winds, nickel size hail, torrential rain, and frequent cloud-to-ground lightning.

For this reason, a Severe Thunderstorm Watch remains in effect across northwest parts of Georgia, a tiny sliver of Alabama on the GA border, and parts of northwest South Carolina until 10pm ET. We have also seen severe storms push through the Greenvile-Spartanburg area of South Carolina, and they continue to push east/southeast.

As the night wears on, we expect these storms to begin to weaken, then fizzle out. Until then, we expect a few more hours of heavy showers and thunderstorms that could produce damaging winds, large hail, frequent lightning, and torrential rain.
