Good morning everyone. The Northeast continues to bask in heat and humidity until things settle down on Thursday. Hot weather is on the move and we are expecting widespread mid 90's tomorrow across the coastal plain and some interior sections. This will help elevate the risk for a wide swath of severe weather tomorrow as a strong cold front bangs into that heat and humidity. The good news is that relief from heat & humidity is on its way with a much cooler Thursday and Friday expected.

Because of that cold front, severe weather is still a major issue as we look to the west and northwest. Last night we had a major severe weather outbreak across parts of Nebraska, South Dakota, North Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Michigan. Very large hail and damaging winds in excess of 70mph were reported, and even major cities such as Minneapolis got in on the action.

Today and tonight, we include some of the areas that got hit yesterday, but overall we shift things to the east in terms of the main core of energy. Leftover showers and storms from yesterday's action continues to set off some areas of severe weather, but it's tonight's action that will be another cause for concern.

Look for some of this leftover energy, plus new clusters and multi-directional lines, to move across parts of Iowa, Wisconsin, Illinois, Michigan, Ohio, eastern Pennsylvania, and western New York. These storms will be capable of very large hail, frequent lightning, damaging winds, torrential rain, and the chance for a few tornadoes.

Overall, our severe weather risk starts now with the leftover storms form last night, into the overnight hours and morning hours of tomorrow with the "newer" storms. Here is your local NYC Metro forecast -

Look for sunshine today, very muggy conditions, and highs in the upper 80's. We remain storm free today, but things change tomorrow. We'll have a very hot day tomorrow with mid 90's and oppressive humidity. That'll help set off the risk for some severe weather.

We don't know for sure if storms will reach NYC due to their scattered nature, but the chance is there for storms with large hail and damaging winds. We'll keep an eye out on the radar tomorrow, plus our short-range models in order to give you the most accurate idea of what to expect.

Thursday goes cooler with a mix of sun & clouds. Cold air aloft and sunshine will help set off some popcorn showers and storms in the afternoon, especially for interior sections. Highs in the mid to upper 70's. We'll have more mid to upper 70's on Friday, but we dry out.

Clouds roll back in on Saturday with 75-80 degree temps and the chance for a few showers. The same goes for Sunday, then we introduce more sunshine and low 80's for Monday.
