Good afternoon everyone. We are watching a couple of hot spots flaring up as far as powerful thunderstorms and isolated tornadic activity. Our first stop is the most current and important in terms of ongoing severe weather risks.

As forecasted in this morning's article, the northern flank of our long daisy-chain line of heavy showers and thunderstorms, would be the most active in terms of widespread severe weather. At the time of this article, we are watching a long and powerful line of storms to the west of Minneapolis, MN marching quickly to the east.

These storms have had a history of large hail, damaging winds, torrential rain, and even an ongoing tornado warning for radar-indicated rotation in the Morrison, MN area. This particular storm is moving to the northeast very rapidly at 55mph. For this reason, the National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch until 9pm CDT in parts of Minnesota, Iowa, and Wisconsin.

While we do not have any tornado watches at this time, tornadoes are still possible and we may see future watches and warnings issued. We will also see severe thunderstorm watches expanded east and south as storms move and build along the line.

That line stretches all the way down into Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, and Texas in a scattered/more broken fashion. These particular storms will still be capable of severe weather, and we will need to keep as close eye on them for localized large hail, frequent lightning, damaging winds, torrential rain, and the possibility of an isolated tornado.

We are also watching isolated severe thunderstorms across parts of Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Virgina, and Maryland. Some of these storms have had a history of 60mph winds and quarter size hail. The National Weather Service has also issed a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for these areas until 11pm EDT.

We have a long way to go on this as sunshine and a large contrast of air masses continue to fuel these thunderstorms for another 4-6+ hours; and in some cases more, especially out west.
