Flooding Issues Around the New Orleans Area With Slow Moving Storms

Good afternoon everyone. In this morning's forecast, we focused on the possible severe weather risk in parts of the Ohio River Valley and the central Great Lakes area; while touching briefly on the tropical moisture along the Gulf of Mexico.

Things are definately looking more robust along the Gulf Coast and interior sections of Texas than what it looked like earlier. Slow moving heavy showers and thunderstorms have concentrated themselves along eastern Louisiana and parts of Mississippi, causing concerns for flooding issues and isolated severe weather.

We're also watching another related batch of heavy showers and storms moving in off of the Gulf and into the southwest corner of Louisiana and eastern sections of the Texas Gulf Coast. While we don't see the flood watches in this area like we see in and around New Orleans, flooding may become an issue later on today.

Another area we are watching are the popcorn variety showers and storms over central and northern Texas with the help of tropical instability and our cold front banging into it. These particular storms have had widespread small hail with them, as well as frequent lightning, gusty winds, and torrential rain.

While we don't see any severe weather watches at this time, localized severe weather will be possible. Look for the chance of damaging winds, large hail, frequent lightning, torrential rain, and the chance of an isolated tornado. There will also be a coastal issue with waterspouts as some of these heavier cells reach near-shore areas.
