Good afternoon everyone. We have a fantastic day unfolding for most areas in the Northeast, although we do have some instability clouds over parts of New York and northern New England. That's in response to cold air aloft interacting with the summer sun, causing some scattered popcorn showers and rumbles with some small hail possible. That being said, it's all gravy from here on, with temps modifying into the mid to upper 70's tomorrow, and we should see some 80's with more sunshine Tuesday through Saturday.

We are still dealing with a swath of tropical moisture stretched from North Carolina, South Carolina, and down into Florida. While most of the rain in the Carolinas are light, Florida is dealing with locally heavy showers and storms. As stated in this morning's article, some of that action could be on the locally severe side, especially more maritime interests. Look for locally strong winds, frequent lightning, torrential rain, and the chance of a few waterspouts.

That old front and tropical energy reaches back into the western Gulf of Mexico, where concerns are rising for tropical development. Several days ago, we mentioned this scenario and unfortunately things are organizing in a way that it is likely we will have a tropical depression on our hands over the next couple of days. At minimum, heavy showers and thunderstorms are expected to impact south Texas and most of coastal Texas as bands of squalls come ashore.

We will also wait and see if this develops further in a tropical storm. Even without further development though, we are expecting very heavy rain, strong to severe thunderstorms, and some flooding likely. In heavier storms, look for locally severe weather with damaging winds and brief tornadoes/waterspouts. The time frame on this is later tomorrow into late in the week.

Coastal areas of Texas and Louisiana need to pay close attention to this system. Here is your local NYC Metro forecast -

Sunshine is the NYC is what the story will be all week long. We are on the cool side though as temps struggle to reach 70 today. We're on the crisp side overnight, with 50-55 degree temps, some 40's possible N&W of NYC.

Our workweek starts off sunny and mild with mid 70's tomorrow, then near 80 on Tuesday. Wednesday is a winner with low 80's then expect mid 80's by Thursday.

Mid to upper 80's are possible on Friday, then some mid 80's on Saturday with more sunshine.
